Volcanos

volcano small:

Microsoft Redesign

Microsoft has redesigned their site for the first time in a long time. I guess if you can't get your operating system out on time you can put out a redesigned site and feel better. It's kinda like getting stuck on a college paper and, to feel some sense of progress, changing the font. Whatever the motives, it's a nicely done site. I like the colors and the openness. It's largely standards-based but while they are so close, they have skipped critical elements such as the DOCTYPE. I'm sure they have some perverse reason for this. WHY CAN'T YOU JUST PLAY WITH EVERYONE ELSE?!!

S+ark Mouse

Microsoft calls it the first "museum quality mouse". While this is a very cool looking mouse, I would hardly go so far. This mouse seems to simply follow the path of the Apple desktop mouse and even, as far as two button mice go, the lowly kensington mouse-in-a-box. I would love to see some hardware/software developers flash some design prowess now and then, but it seems like everytime they one tries to dabble in this arena the come out looking more like another follower than a leader. Seems like somebody would be able to figure out a way to one-up Apple, but I haven't seen it yet.

Nvu

Navigator has become Firefox. Communicator became Thunderbird. Now Composer is trying to find a new audience under the name "Nvu" (short, some how, for "new view"). The only thing that I really ever liked about Composer was its price tag (free). Maybe Nvu will find some life with a new name and being detached from it's siblings.

Browse Happy

The Web Standards Project has launched a new site to encourage an already large mass that seems to be moving away from using Internet Explorer on the windows platform. The site, Browse Happy, details some of the dangers of using Internet Explorer on Windows and provides easy access to download alternative browsers such as Firefox, Opera and Safari.

Will Microsoft tweak IE?

The software giant tells a standards body that it's considering making changes to its Web browser in light of a recent patent infringement ruling against the company. [CNET News.com]I can hardly believe that this would be a good thing.

Squeaky Floors

My shoes--all my shoes--seem to make a ton of noise on the floors at Southwest and North Star high schools. Anyone elses or is it just me?

Rain?

Will it rain soon?

It's Friday!!
