Welcome to the Silver Hawk Theatre Web Site,
My name is Bob Henrichs and I am the Director of Theatre at LSW. This page is to introduce myself, talk about our upcoming year, and if you are an LSW student, to invite you to be part of the theatre department. If you are interested in any aspect of the performing arts: acting, singing, dancing, instrumental music, art, technical theatre, then you must be part of creating a tradition of theatre excellence at LSW! Silver Hawk Theatre is soaring at Southwest High School! We continue to build a nationally recognized tradition of theatre excellence by producing outstanding productions and by giving students the finest theatre education and training. Now all we need is . . . YOU!
First, a little about myself. I love teaching and working with high school students! Theatre takes a lot of time and dedication, so I work hard at creating a family atmosphere. I value ALL types of people and welcome you to join us. I served five years as the State Director of the Nebraska Thespian Society and then was elected to serve as the International President of the Educational Theatre Association. I have been fortunate enough to be selected as the Nebraska Theatre Teacher of the Year three times. I have been invited to take six shows to perform at the International Thespian Festival, the largest week-long celebration of high school theatre in the world! I have an undying passion for theatre, and I love the AWESOME facilities we will have at LSW. I hope you will want to be part of our theatre family.
As for our department, I want you to know that theatre involves much more than memorizing lines and performing on stage. Most of the vital work in a great theatre department is done behind the scenes on such things as scenery, lights, costumes, props, make-up, and publicity. Student crews run all of the shows and state-of-the-art equipment! Every student is an integral part of our program! Theatre is definitely a confidence-building activity at Southwest. Students learn all aspects of theatre in a supportive, creative, and safe environment. But most of all, we HAVE FUN! As well as our productions, we also go to both the Nebraska and the International Thespian Festivals, attend professional shows at the Lied Center and Omaha, and each summer I take students to New York City for six days to experience the best Broadway shows, great restaurants, and best tourist spots!
