Objectives

BUSINESS EDUCATION OBJECTIVES

Basic skills such as reading, writiing, computation and computer technology expertise comprise the foundation of all Business Education courses.  Courses integrate academic skills and critical thinking skills.  The instruction is a balance of business principles from which the student learns about the environment he or she will face in the business world, as well as life skills for personal use.

The following statements comprise the essential knowledge, skills and objectives of our Business Education program.

1.  Business Education helps develop competent consumers, employees and entrepreneurs.  Students enhance their understanding of the financial, economic, technological, international and social aspects of business.

2.  Business Education is the broad-based knowledge of general business topics.  Students will investigate the legal, managerial, marketing and financial dimensions of business.

3.  Business Education provides students with technical knowledge and skills.  Students will acquire advanced productivity and transition skills for emerging technologies.

4.  Business Education enhances reading, writing, computing, communicating, goal setting, and reasoning skills.  Students apply these skills to personal and business situations.

5.  The changing business environment necessitates flexibility and adaptability.  Students must recognize and evaluate the need for change, thereby meeting rapidly evolving global conditions.  They must learn to learn.

6.  Business Education recognizes the social responsibility of business and industry.  Students will understand the significance of environmental, ethical, health, safety and diversity issues in society and in the workplace.

7.  Business Education will provide individuals opportunities to participate in actual or simulated business experiences.

8.  Interpersonal and intrapersonal skills strengthen individual and team performance in the workplace and in society.  Students use their skills to assist in the successful transition to the workforce and/or in the continuation of their education.
