Mayor's Run Information

2003 Mayor's Run Information

The runners will start on the south side of the capitol, and run one and a half laps around the capitol. This means that they will finish on the north side. A suggestion would be that you go to the north side first and pick a meeting place so when they finish they will know where to find you.
Another suggestion would be to inform your child that during the start it can be quite hectic and that if they are in the middle they will want to be very careful to not run or push. If they are in the front watch out there will be hundreds of other runners behind them trying to get to the front, so keep moving and do not stop until they are at the side or past the first turn. If you are at the back start slow and watch out for those in front. Pushing is very dangerous as this may result in someone falling and getting stepped on.
Adults are asked to stand amongst the runners to help slow the start and pick up any runners that may fall. With the older students adult runners are discouraged to participate. However the younger students may be accompanied by an adult.
Starting times are approximately 20 minutes apart, and the first race will start as close to 8:00 possible. If you show up at 8:40 for the 3rd. heat you may miss it.
Give yourself some time to find parking and time to walk to the start. Parking will be limited to side streets because the streets around the capitol are blocked off to allow the runners to run in the street.
