Collograph prints and Colored Plates
Fourth grade students at Belmont Elementary studied various printmaking methods such as etchings, woodcuts, linoleum cuts, lithographs, and Collographs. They also studied the artist Romare Bearden who is well known for his collages and printmaking.
These pieces of art have two parts. The plate is made of card stock paper. The students were not allowed to use pencils when making these plates. They had to think of a design and then cut it out and glue it on the large base of the plate. When the plates were finished, they inked them and ran them through a printing press; this gave them their print. The second part of this project came after the ink dried on their plate. They added more color to it using several layers of oil pastels creating yet another piece of art.
Please take the time to see the slide show of our Collographs.
