Symphonic Band
The Lincoln High School Symphonic has long been known as the
premier Nebraska high school concert band. Their standard competition
repertoire consists of music in the grade five and six range. Admission
to the ensemble is through a double audition process. One audition is
for entrance in the group with the second being for chair placement.
Most of the members of the band also participate in the Lincoln High
School Marching Band and all members of the Varsity Jazz Band are
members of the Symphonic Band
The Lincoln High School Symphonic Band receives consistent Superior
ratings at the Lincoln Public Schools All City Symphonic Band Contest. In the 2004 All City Large Ensemble contest, the Lincoln High Symphonic Band was the only top band to receive a Superior Rating.
They are the only Nebraska High School concert band to have been
invited to and participate in the Dixie Classic National Adjudicators
Invitational Concert Band Contest in St. Louis, Missouri where they
place third among bands from across the nation.
In May of 2002 the Symphonic Band participated in the Branson Classic
Invitational Band Contest where they received a Superior Rating and in
the second day of finals finished Runner Up to bands from 13 states.
In May of 2007 the Symphonic Band received a Superior Rating, was
awarded Class AAAAA Champion as well as Grand Champion Sweepstakes
Winner of the Worlds of Fun Festival of Bands in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Symphonic Band has won the Grand Champion Sweepstakes Award the
last 15 out of sixteen years.
In May of 2006 the Symphonic Band participated in the Windy City Classic in Chicago, Illinois where bands from 9 states went head to head. The Symphonic Band was awarded the Grand Championship of the entire festival.
The Symphonic Band has participated in the Nebraska State Bandmasters
Association Concert Band Festival as well as having several times been
selected as an honor band at the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association
State Convention.
On December of 2003 the Symphonic Band performed a concert in
the Great Methodist Hall at Parliament Square in London, England during the Lincoln High School Marching Band's trip to London and again in December of 2007 in St. John's Church on Sloan Square as they participated in the London New Years Day Parade and Festival through Youth Music of the World. 2007-2008 was the Marching Bands's third time participating in
this invitation only event. The Lincoln High School Marching Band is
the first band from Nebraska to have been invited to and participate in
this international event
The Lincoln High School Symphonic Band will once again be performing
free concerts in the Lincoln High School Auditorium as well as a full
