Here's an opportunity to become acquainted with Germany, to sharpen language and culture skills, and to enjoy the excitement of travel to another country.
APPLICATIONS, due October 8th, are available from German teachers, via the web at www.lps.org (Instruction), and from the World Language Office, LPSDO, 5901 O Street.
COST is based on 24 students and three leaders and INCLUDES the following: LPS teacher supervision, round-trip air Omaha/Madrid, airport taxes and fees, airport transfers, land transportation via motorcoach, excursion to Segovia, entrance and activity fees, 3-night hotel accommodation, 5-night family stay, meals indicated on itinerary, welcome dinner, insurance (medical and trip cancellation) and an airline fuel surcharge.
COST DOES NOT INCLUDE the following: passport fees (budget $120 for documents/photos), transportation to/from Omaha, meals not indicated on itinerary, family stay gifts - budget $25, spending money/souveniers (budget a minimum of $200-$300)

DAY 1 DEPARTURE
Fly round-trip Omaha/München
DAYS 2 & 3 MÜNCHEN
Explore and get to know the beautiful and fun city of München, Bavaria's Stadt mit Herx. Visit the Deutsches Museum and Rembrant's famous paintings at Alte Pinakothek. Stroll to the Marienplatz to listen to the Glockenspiel. Discover some of the many cozy restaurants and don't forget to enjoy a Weißwurst mit Brezn and so much more! (2B)
DAYS 4-8 FAMILY STAY
Leave München and begin your Family Stay in Heilbronn! Put your language to work while experiencing everyday life in Germany with a German family; get to know Mutti, Vati und Geschwister, doing what they do and eating typical German meals. (Meals at home)
DAY 9 MAINZ
Travel to Mainz, home of the Gutenberg Museum and the Stefanskirche with its beautiful Chagall windows. Do some sightseeing along the Rhein River. Finish your last-minute shopping in the Fußgängerzone. Enjoy your ISE farewell dinner. Pack for home. (B, D)
DAY 10 DEPARTURE
Say Auf Wiedersehen! to Germany before transferring to the airport for your return to the U.S. (B)
Eligibility
High school seniors and juniors are eligible for the 16 Germany seats.* Eligible students must currently study German in their respective high schools. A minimum 2.5 GPA with no F's and a C grade or better in German class is required by applicants and must be maintained in order to travel. Students should be in good health, physically and emotionally, and must be willing to rearrange schedules in order to commit to required orientation meetings held prior to departure. Trip meeting dates are planned for second semester, prior to departure and will be announced in January.
Payment Schedule
$500 due with application on or before Monday, October 8, 2007
$500 due on or before Thursday, November 8, 2007
Balance due on or before Thursday, January 3, 2008
Please note: Do NOT ask German teachers or high school office personnel to forward your payment to the World Language Office. Payments should be mailed to: Jami Swanson, World Language Curriculum Specialist, Lincoln Public Schools, P.O. Box 82889, Lincoln, NE 68501 or brought to the Lincoln Public Schools World Language Office, 5901 O Street. Payments must be by check or money order and payable to Lincoln Public Schools. Cash payments WILL NOT be accepted.
Cancellation Policy
October 16, 2007 - November 30, 2007, $200 fee
December 1, 2007 or later, fee to be determined
30 days or fewer prior to departure, no refund possible
Please note: Cancellations must be in writing by both the student and the parent. Lincoln Public Schools works in conjunction with travel agencies and non-profit organizations** to contract out the trips. Cancellation policies are in accordance with contracted groups. Lincoln Public Schools does not hold any of the cancellation fees. Students applying for financial aid may cancel and receive a full refund IF they do not receive scholarship assistance as requested. Scholarship awards will be made prior to December 1, 2007. After scholarship acceptance, cancellation fees follow the outlined policy for all applicants. Effective May 1, 2004, a service fee of $20 will be charged for each check returned to Lincoln Public Schools.
*Once trip space is filled, additional applicants will be wait-listed. Wait-listed applicants are added according to postmark/hand delivery date of complete application/payment as received by the World Language Office. Should a cancellation occur, wait-listed persons are added.

Passport application materials are available at the Main Post Office, 700 R Street, or on the web at www.usps.com. Lincoln Public Schools students who are non-U.S. citizens and hope to travel with the KNOW-YOUR-NEIGHBOR STUDY TOURS must begin processing in October to ensure that travel documents will be complete prior to departure. If you are a non-U.S. citizen and are applying for financial aid, you need to include documentation with your application that you have begun processing your Visa in order to qualify for financial aid.
